I Due Cippi – Tuscan Tradition with a Flame-Cooked Heart

Nestled in the heart of Saturnia, amidst rolling Tuscan hills and centuries-old thermal springs, I Due Cippi stands as a beacon of culinary excellence in southern Tuscany. For over three decades, this family-run restaurant has welcomed travellers and locals alike with its unmistakable charm, open-flame cooking and steadfast commitment to quality.

At the centre of the experience is the restaurant’s wood-fired grill, visible from the dining room, where a curated selection of meats is cooked to perfection. Each cut is treated with reverence, grilled over glowing embers that lend a smoky complexity to the already rich, marbled beef. The meat is mainly sourced from selected regional producers, aged in-house and served simply—allowing the ingredients to shine in their most honest form.

Beyond the grill, I Due Cippi excels in Tuscan classics elevated with just the right amount of finesse. Starters like local pecorino drizzled with honey, or handmade pici with wild boar ragù, speak to the restaurant’s deep roots in the land. Everything on the menu feels connected to the rhythm of the Maremma—seasonal, rustic and deeply satisfying.

Service at I Due Cippi reflects the genuine hospitality of the region. Alessandro Aniello, co-owner Maître D’ and head of wine, plays a central role in guiding guests through the extensive and thoughtfully composed wine list, featuring a rich selection of Tuscan and Italian vintages. His pairing suggestions elevate the meal without pretension—always in the service of pleasure and balance.

The atmosphere is warm and lively, a blend of stone, firelight and laughter, where one feels more like a welcome guest in someone’s home than a customer in a restaurant. Whether seated in the cosy interior or the charming outdoor space under the Saturnian sky, guests are enveloped in a sense of timeless Italian hospitality.

In 2025, I Due Cippi remains a quintessential Tuscan dining experience helmed by chef-owner Lorenzo Aniello - a place where fire, excellence, passion and family intertwine. For lovers of fine meat, great wine and honest cooking, it’s nothing short of essential and makes it the best steak restaurant in Italy and our current No. 4 of the list.
